Races

I originally started this blog when I signed up to run the Virgin London Marathon in 2011, raising money for MIND. I wanted to use it as a way of informing friends and family about my training and fundraising.
I had never really run before, apart from the annual 1500m at school, and one 8K with a friend the previous year. I started out not able to run a full mile without walking, but gradually I managed to increase my mileage.

When I had to pull out of the 2011 marathon I was devastated. I had put so much time and effort into training, not to mention everyone who had sponsored me. I quickly decided that I would run it the following year, with more training, and in 2012- a huge year for London!

I was thrilled when two of my best friends, Emily and Joe, also signed up to the London 2012 marathon, meaning I had friends to swap training stories with and to join on long runs. (Joe was too speedy for me and Em to run with him!)
I signed up for a couple of races in my 2012 marathon training, something that I hadn’t done the previous year, and ended up loving them. I loved the feeling that ‘we were all in this together’ mentality that happened during the races, everyone was so friendly, there were water stations and most of all, there were medals. I love medals!! Plus, having a race mentality made it easier to maintain a faster speed throughout the run.

Here are the races I have already completed, and a list of some that I want to do in the future!

  1. Good work, your times are fast.

I'm going to attempt a half marathon this year. Either in May (not likely, I can only manage just under 15!
